SMIS app privacy

This describes the SMIS mobile app for Android — the one a school’s guardians, students and staff sign in to. The marketing site’s own privacy note is separate and covers only its contact form.

Whose data it is

The school’s. Every record the app shows — a child’s name, class, attendance, results, fees, notices, homework, messages — lives on that school’s own server, which the school runs and controls. S3 Solution does not receive it, does not store it, and cannot read it.

What you sign in with

The email address and password the school issued you. The app keeps the resulting sign-in token in the phone’s own secure keystore, and nothing else about your account.

What the app puts on your phone

The school’s web address, your language choice, and — for teachers — any register or marks saved while there was no signal, held until they can be sent. A study material you open is downloaded into the app’s private storage so another app can display it. Uninstalling the app removes all of it.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Google gives the app a delivery token, which is sent to your school’s server so it can notify you about results, fees, messages and school notices. The token identifies the installation, not you, and it is the only thing this app hands to Google.

Payments

Paying a fee opens your school’s payment gateway in the phone’s own browser. The app never sees or stores a card number, a wallet number or a PIN.

What S3 Solution receives

Two things, neither of them personal: a directory that turns a school code into that school’s web address, and a file saying which version of the app is current. There is no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing is sold to anyone.

Children’s data

Accounts are issued by the school, not created in the app, and a guardian sees only their own children. The school decides who holds an account and what it may see.

Deleting your data

Ask your school — it holds the records and controls the accounts. Uninstalling the app removes what is on the phone, and signing out withdraws the notification token. To reach us instead, use the number below and we will pass it to the school.
